Poem: Reincarnation

“Reincarnation”
by Bill Ward
2000

Tarp is pulled off
Accumulated water and leaves
Hide her true self.
Scrubbing, painting, lovingly cleaned.

The truck comes.
Her cradle, her wheelchair
Is finally in motion,
Sailing down the highway.

Down the ramp she is lowered.
The litterl-strewn polluted water
Kisses her underbelly
Until again she can move unaided
To her new home, free of artificial support.
Once again she can sail
Once again she is alive,
Bobbing gently,
Eagerly tugging at her restraints,
Waiting for me.
