Poem: Senseless

“Senseless”
by Bill Ward
2000

What does love smell like?
 What color is happiness?
What is the flavor of riding a mountain bike?
   The texture of bliss?
    The sound of a frown?

My senses are inadequate.
My eyes cannot hear,
My ears cannot smell,
My nose has no taste,
My tongue is blind.

But through the eye of the page,
The ear of words,
All is made clear to me.

The smell of love is flowers after a rain
The color of happiness, a rainbow.
A mountaiun bike tastes of sweat and mud,
Bliss feels like a silken pillow,
But a frown echoes in its silence.
